“Green Vein”: Official film trailer released
Green Vein – The Agroecological Renaissance of West Africa
A documentary from Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin and Nigeria by Sara Baga
A new power emerges in the fields, classrooms and urban gardens of West Africa. Sprouting in all corners of the region, the seeds flourish in the hands of innovative farmers, young entrepreneurs and experienced visionaries. Agroecology is changing the face of West Africa’s food systems, and the movement is consolidating and organising across the relatively recent political borders. There are new streams of ideas that are capable of reverting decades of environmental and land degradation. Inspired by the global movement of agroecology and regenerative agriculture, farmers, academics and change agents hold in their hands the seeds of transformation.
A stream of awareness and initiatives flows and grows across West Africa like a powerful green vein fertilising the land.

Background
From September to November 2019, the r4d Food Systems Caravan toured as a 50 day road show and communication caravan through five countries in West Africa, bringing the main messages of food security research partnership projects to diverse institutions and the general public. It organised events for direct dialogue, linking actors in local and regional networks, promoting knowledge exchanges on food systems sustainability including agroecology, agroforestry, organic farming and gender equality. The documentary “Green Vein” and many other digital products emerged from this unique journey.
