How can we support farmers in creating a sustainable income?
The r4d projectFeminisation, agricultural transition and rural employment(FATE) aims at contributing to a better understanding of how farmers can be best supported in creating a sustainable income. It tries to pin down the effects of agricultural transition on rural people, on rural livelihoods, the development of rural employment and the way how that changes people’s lives. A particular focus lies on the risk that farmers take when they change from subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture. The project provides results not only from singe case studies but from a comparative approach with studies in four countries across the global.
This video provides insights into the situation in Laos, where researchers and stakeholders together explore the advantages and disadvantages of belonging to a cooperative.
This video-clip was produced as part of the r4d programme Digital Storytellers synthesis project. Its contents were filmed and selected by Stephanie Jaquet, Centre for Development and Environment, University of Bern, and Reto Steffen, independent filmmaker, in collaboration with local partners in Laos. The digital storytelling process was accompanied and supported by Paitití Lab. Watch on YouTube.
